Food in Asia I encountered recently
I want to introduce Thai pineapple steamed rice that I ate in Bangkok. It comes with a fresh coconut juice. The reason I ordered this is because I liked the idea, they put the rice in the pineapple. Shrimps and pieces of pineapple were in the rice, and it doesn't taste so sweet as it seems. Coconut juices are sold everywhere in southeast Asia, even on the plane and convenience store.
I ordered this pho at a hotel in Ho Chi Min. I think they have pho as street food also, but I was afraid to get ill from food poisoning, so I ate pho at a restaurant. Unlike noodles in Japan, the noodles of pho are made from rice, so I think it's really healthy. Pho also has a lot of vegetables like bean sprouts and coriander in it. I liked the taste from the first time I ate it, it tastes kind of exotic, and has its' own unique flavor.
This dish called ganjang-gejang is literally raw crab, a popular menu in South Korea. Unlike other Korean dishes, ganjang-gejang is not spicy at all but many people get ill from food poisoning because it's raw. My friend who ate this threw up and suffered from diarrhea for 30 minutes after eating this. I liked the rich taste of the crab butter, and it matches well with cooked rice.
I liked this dish the most in all the four dishes above. I ate Nasi Goreng every day when I visited Indonesia. It's not spicy, the sauce on the meat is slightly sweet. I think that the taste of Indonesian food was the closest to Japanese food and I believe that most of the other Japanese will also like Nasi Goreng too. Other than Nasi Goreng, I ate Nasi Mie Goreng, which was like Yakisoba in Japan.
